Glomera sororia J.J.Sm.

Glomera sororia  J.J.Sm., Bull. Jadr. Bot. Buitenzorg 2(25):25 (1917)- Type: L.van Vuuren, Rachmat 907 (holotype, probably in BO)

Growth form Epiphyte. Rhizome not seen. Roots filiform, flexible, glabrous. Stem cylindrical, branched, branches short, proliferously leafed, completely covered by leaf sheaths, internodes 0.3-0.65 cm long. Leaf narrowly oblong, coriaceous; apex oblique, unequally 2-lobed, both lobes obtuse; base short petiolated; lamina 0.9-1.8 cm long, 0.23-0.35 cm wide; sheath tubular, densely warty; apex toothed, with bristled margin, bristles warty. Inflorescences terminal, one-flowered, patent, when young enveloped by a spathe. Spathe tubular, 5-nerved, punctate outside, obtuse, apex sometimes tridentate, 0.75 cm long; floral bracts transparent, thin, similar with spathe, 3-nerved, apex obtuse, 0.95 cm long. Flowers upright, glabrous, 1.2 cm long, sepals and petals reflexed, convex. Median sepal narrowly oblong, upper half slightly contracted, apex obtuse, conoid-apiculate, recurved, warty on the back side, 3-nerved at base, 7-nerved in higher part, 1.1 cm long, 0.35 cm wide. Lateral sepals base connate, oblique narrowly oblong, subfalcate, narrowed toward the apex, apex obtuse, apiculate, 7-nerved in higher part, warty on the back side, up to apex of the ovary 1 cm long, front margin 1.2 cm long, base 0.525 cm wide, above the base 0.34 cm wide. Petal oblique linear, narrowed towards apex, apex obtuse, warty on the back side, 3-nerved at base, 5-nerved in higher parts, 1 cm long, 0.18 cm wide. Lip in total 1.35 cm long, adnate to the column, cucullate, when flattened broadly rhombic, 9-nerved, 3-lobed, 0.375 cm long, free part 0.2 cm long, 0.55 cm wide; epichile lateral lobe appressed the column, rounded triangular with irregular margin, midlobe broadly triangular, obtuse, apex convex-thickened; hypochile transversely thickened, spurred; spur appressed the ovary, subterete, flattened back, apex obtuse, subretuse, 1 cm long. Column convex, with anther 0.3 cm long; clinandrium not seen; stelidia triangular, obtuse. Anther cucullate, semiorbicular-reniform, apex 2-dentate, base minutely convex, 0.13 cm wide; rostellum 2-lobed; pollinia not seen; stigma not seen; viscidium not seen. Ovary cylindric, curved, 6-ribbed, warty, 1.3 cm long. Capsule not seen.

Distribution – Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Habitat and Ecology - Epiphyte in montane forest of mount Sinadji. Altitude not known. Flowering in November in the wild.

Notes -  1. Floral colors not known.

2. The epithet sororia refers to the closest relative of the species, G. celebica (Schltr.) J.J.Sm, the only other known species of Glomera occurring on Sulawesi (sororia means sister in Latin).
