Growth form Epiphyte. Rhizome not seen. Roots filiform, long, flexible, glabrous. Stem long, strongly branched, subcylindrical, proliferously leafed, 0.15 cm in diameter, branches widely patent, thinner, completely covered by leaf sheaths, internodes up to 0.3-3 cm long. Leaf narrowly ovate-lanceolate, widely patent, sessile, narrowed towards apex, midrib grooved above, papyraceous; apex strongly unequally 2-lobed, longer lobe truncate; base half-twisted; lamina 0.7-1.75 cm long, 0.23-0.38 cm wide; sheath surpassing the internodes, tubular, warty; apex toothed, with bristled margin. Inflorescences terminal, nodding, one-flowered, when young enveloped by a spathe. Spathe cucullate, tubular at base, clasping each other and the ovary, apiculate, warty, punctate, membranous, 0.9 cm long; floral bracts thin, transparent, same as spathe, 0.7 cm long. Flowers upright, glabrous, 1.1 cm wide. Median sepal oblong-ovate, obtuse, subulate-apiculate, convex, 3-nerved at base, 0.73 cm long, 0.3 cm wide. Lateral sepals obliquely ovate-triangular, obtuse, subulate-apiculate, convex, 3-nerved at base, 5-nerved in higher parts, 0.66 cm long, base including the lobule 0.4 cm wide, above the base 0.37 cm wide. Petal obliquely oblong, obtuse, retuse, convex, 3-nerved, 0.6 cm long, 0.2 cm wide. Lip at base adnate to the column, cucullate-concave, in total 0.7-0.73 cm long, when flattened transversely oblong, 7-nerved, 0.18-0.23 cm long, 0.58-0.63 cm wide; epichile obtusely apiculate, recurved with incurved apiculum, indistinctly 3-lobed, papillose; hypochile spurred; spur appressed to the ovary, in basal part cylindrical, in front below the apex ventricose-inflated, apex bilobulate, dorsally broadly longitudinally grooved, to apex of ovary 0.6 cm long. Column 0.17 cm long, dorsally convex; clinandrium dentate; stelidia triangular, denticulate. Anther not seen; rostellum sub truncate, slightly longer than stelidia; stigma obliquely funnel-shaped, margin elongated and strongly recurved, forming quadrangular with rostellum; pollinia not seen; viscidium absent. Ovary 6-grooved, 3 grooves conspicuous, 3 inconspicuous, 0.85 cm long 0.95 cm long. Capsule sessile, globose, 3-grooved, 0.53 cm long

Distribution – Indonesia.

Habitat and Ecology – Epiphyte in montane forest. Altitude 1500 m. Flowering in April in the wild.

2. The epithet scandens refers to the climbing habit of the species (scandens means climbing in Latin).
