Growth form Epiphyte. Rhizome 1-2 mm in diameter. Root filiform, flexible, glabrous. Stem branched, elliptic in cross section, glabrous, slender, proliferously leafed, internodes 1.05-1.3 cm long, 0.08 cm wide. Leaf subulate, erect-patent, slightly cylindric, glabrous, carnose, narrowed towards apex, longitudinally grooved above; apex acute; base subpetiolate; lamina 2.5-5.2 cm long, 0.17 cm wide; sheath tight, tubular, in cross section elliptic, longitudinally ribbed, somewhat warty; apex toothed, with bristled margin, bristle 0.8 cm long, straight, appressed, caduceus. Inflorescences terminal, one-flowered, when young enveloped by a spathe. Spathe orbicular, tubular, transparent, glabrous, clasping the ovary, warty, 0.52-0.65 cm long, 0.47 cm wide, 3-nerved, apex obtuse, apiculate, with silver dots; floral bracts obovate, thin, transparent, apex acute, with brown dots, 0.39 cm long, 0.31 cm wide, 1-nerved. Flower upright, widely opening, 1.1 cm wide. Median sepal oblong, convex, 3-nerved at base, 5-nerved in higher parts, 0.59-0.65 cm long, 0.2-0.28 cm wide; apex obtuse, conical-apiculate. Lateral sepal obliquely ovate-triangular, slightly falcate, 3-nerved at base, 5-nerved in higher parts, 0.55-0.6 cm long, 0.20-0.28 cm wide; apex obtuse, conical-apiculate; base obliquely dilated, connate, clasping the whole spur, front margin completely free. Petals obliquely oblong, slightly obovate, 3-nerved, 0.55-0.64 cm long, 0.25-0.28 cm wide; apex obtuse. Lip transverse ovate-elliptic, indistinctly 3-lobed, concave, adnate to the base of the column, 0.15-0.16 cm long, 0.26-0.3 cm wide; epichile midlobe acute, recurved, with brown glands, slightly thickened, 5-7-nerved, lateral lobes broadly obtuse; hypochile spurred; spur appressed to the ovary, glabrous, oblong, dorsally compressed, 0.25-0.35 cm long, apex obtuse, subretuse. Column curved, 0.10-0.18 cm long, without column foot; clinandrium concave, crenulate. Anther cucullate, orbicular, apex obtuse, recurved; pollinia 4, pear-shaped; rostellum porrect, truncate; stigma semiorbicular, lower margin elongated, recurved. Ovary curved, 3-ribbed, 0.55-0.65 cm long. Capsule not seen.
Distribution –Indonesia.
Habitat and Ecology - Epiphyte in lowland forest along North River. Altitude 0 m. Flowering in October in the wild.
Notes - 1. Flowers white with red or rose-red base.
2. The epithet subuliformis refers to the knitting-needleshape leaves (subula means knitting-needle in Latin ).
