Growth form Epiphyte, erect, branched, up to 35 cm high. Rhizome not seen. Roots filiform, flexible, glabrous. Stem branched, compressed, proliferously leafed, entirely covered by leaf-sheaths. Leaf ligulate, erect-patent; apex unequally 2-lobed, both lobes obtuse; base sub-petiolate, narrowed; lamina 3.5-5 cm long, 0.4-0.7 cm wide; sheath tight clasping, shiny, striate, sometimes subrugulose, 1.5-2 cm long; apex toothed, with glabrous margin. Inflorescences terminal, multi-flowered, nodding, semi-globose, when young enveloped by a spathe. Spathe not seen; floral bracts not seen Flowers upright, glabrous. Median sepal broadly elliptic, obtuse, 0.4 cm long. Lateral sepals obliquely ovate, obtuse, up to apical third fused, base cucullate-concave, 0.4 cm long. Petal obliquely elliptic, obtuse, somewhat smaller than sepals. Lip broadly ovate, glabrous, 0.2 cm long, 0.2 cm wide; epichile obtuse; hypochile spurred; spur subquadrate, broadly obtuse, 0.2 cm long, 0.2 cm wide. Column glabrous; clinandrium not seen. Anther broadly cucullate, obtusely umbonate, in front retuse, glabrous; rostellum not seen; pollinia 4, pear-shaped; stigma not seen; viscidium present. Ovary cylindric, glabrous, 0.4 cm long. Capsule not seen.

Distribution –Papua New Guinea.

Habitat and Ecology - Epiphyte in montane forest. Altitude 1300  m. Flowering in January in the wild.

Notes - 1. Flowers white with blackish green lip tip; anther light brown with white humps.

2. The epithet subpetiolata refers to the short petiolate base of the leaves of the species
