Growth form Epiphyte, 25-35 cm long. Rhizome not seen. Roots filiform, flexible, glabrous. Stem decumbent to pendulous, branching, cylindrical, slightly compressed towards the apex, branches sometimes rooting, proliferously leafed, completely covered by leaf sheaths, internodes 0.4-0.9 cm long. Leaf linear-ligulate, erect-patent, coriaceous; apex unequal 2-lobed, both lobes obtuse; lamina 1-3 cm long, 0.15-0.25 cm wide; sheath tubular, warty mostly towards apex, with raised veins; apex toothed, with bristled margin, bristles 0.05-0.1 cm long. Inflorescences terminal, one-flowered, when young enveloped by a spathe. Spathe oblong, 6-nerved, with brown dots, apex acute, 1.1 cm long, 0.72 cm wide; floral bracts transparent, thin, narrowly oblong, with brown dots, apex acute, 2-nerved, 0.72 cm long, 0.60 cm wide. Flowers upright, glabrous, 1 cm across. Median sepal oblong, apex narrowly obtuse to acute, 0.8 cm long. Lateral sepals subfalcate-oblong, in front towards the base a little widened, not cohering, apex apiculate, 0.7 cm long. Petal subfalcate, obovate-spathulate, apex obtuse, 0.7 cm long. Lip adnate to the base of the column, oblong, 0.35 cm long; epichile narrowly obtuse; hypochile spurred; spur saccate, ovoid, half as long as the lip-blade, apex obtuse. Column short, curved, 0.23 cm long, with column foot; clinandrium denticulate; stelidia not seen. Anther orbicular, apex ascending, narrowly obtuse; pollinia 4, pear-shaped, obliquely oblanceolate; rostellum not seen; stigma not seen; viscidium not seen. Ovary cylindrical, 0.8 cm long, punctate, glabrous. Capsule not seen.

Distribution – Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Habitat and Ecology - Epiphyte in hill and montane forest. Altitude 500-1800 m. Flowering in January and July in the wild.

Notes -  1. Flowers white with two blood-red spots on the tip of the lip.

2. The epithet hamadryas refers to a Greek mythological being with the same name that lived in trees similar to these epiphytic orchids.
