Glomera calocephala Schltr., Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. Beih 17:375 (1921)- Type Schlaginghaufen s.n. (holotype B, lost)
Growth form Epiphyte, erect, slender, up to 55 cm high. Rhizome very short. Roots filiform, flexible, very short and densely hirsute. Stem unbranched, cylindrical, 50 cm long, 0.35-0.4 cm in diameter, proliferously leafed, entirely covered by sheaths, internodes not seen. Leaf narrowly lanceolate, erect-patent, thin; apex acute; lamina 12-14 cm long, 0.9-1.2 cm wide; sheath striate-nervose, sparsely warty, minutely punctate; apex tooth or without tooth, margins unknown. Inflorescences terminal, multi-flowered, semi-globose, 3.5 cm in diameter, when young enveloped by a spathe. Spathe transparent, apex acuminate to apiculate; floral bracts thin, transparent, elliptic, shorter than the ovary. Flowers upside-down or upright, glabrous. Median sepal oblong, 1 cm long. Lateral sepals oblique, apex rather obtuse, base dilated, shortly connate, clasping the spur of the lip. Petal obliquely ligulate-oblong, almost as long as the sepal, apex obtuse, somewhat dilated in the middle Lip small, oblong, carnose, slightly narrowed towards the base, 0.35 cm long, 0.15 cm wide; epichile obtuse; hypochile spurred; spur oblongoid, obtuse, dorsally flattened, near the mouth below the base of blade slightly ventricose-widened, 0.33 cm long. Column slightly incurved, 0.15 cm long. Anther not seen; pollinia not seen; viscidium not seen. Ovary subsessile, glabrous, cylindrical, 0.8 cm long. Capsule not seen.
Distribution – Papua New Guinea.
Habitat and Ecology - Epiphytic in montane forest. Altitude not known. Flowering season not known.
Notes - 1. Flowers probably white or yellow with a bright red lip.
2. The epithet calocephala refers to the hanging position of the inflorescence ( calo means hanging and free and cephala means head)
