Growth form Epiphyte, up to 1 m long. Rhizome not seen. Roots filiform, flexible, glabrous. Stem elongated, rooting at base, cylindrical, strongly branched in upper part, sheathing, proliferously leafed, completely covered by leaf sheaths, in basal part 0.33 cm in diameter, in the upper part thinner, lower internodes 1.9-2.8 cm long, upper internodes 0.3-0.4 cm long. Leaf lanceolate, narrower towards the apex, distichous, patent, convex below, above on either side of the longitudinal groove convex, rigidly carnose, punctate below only; apex strongly unequally obtuse or obtuse, weakly bidentate; base shortly contracted; lamina 0.7-2 cm long, 0.23-0.4 cm wide; sheath tubular, as long as the internodes, strongly warty; apex toothed, with bristled margin. Inflorescences terminal, one-flowered, when young enveloped by a spathe. Spathe clasping the ovary and the spur, tightly tubular, subovate, nerves outside prominent, midrib in apical part keeled, finely warty, membranous, apex subacute, apiculate, 0.9 cm long; floral bracts transparent, thin, clasping the ovary, tubular at base, oblong, 1-nerved, apex obtuse, slightly apiculate, 0.93 cm long, 0.43 cm wide. Flowers upright, widely opening, 1.9 cm long, 1.8 cm wide. Median sepal lanceolate-linear, narrowed towards the apex, erect, margins strongly revolute, convex, 5-nerved, apex subacute, subulate-apiculate, 1.2 cm long, 0.25 cm wide. Lateral sepals deflexed, slightly falcate, margins strongly revolute, convex, obliquely lanceolate-linear, gradually narrowed towards the apex, 5-nerved, apex subacute, subulate-apiculate, base obliquely rounded-auriculate-dilated, concave, clasping the base of the spur, 1.1 cm long, along the front margin 1.27 cm long, above the base 0.26 cm wide, at base 0.9 cm wide. Petal with strongly recurved margins, almost tubular, sublanceolate-linear, narrowed towards apex, 3-nerved, apex obtuse, 1.1 cm long, 0.2 cm wide. Lip at base adnate to the column, strongly concave, clasping the apex of the column, with the column obliquely cup-shaped, apex slightly recurved and convex, in middle especially towards the base carnose-thickened, when flattened transversely rhombic, weakly 3-lobed, 7-nerved, 0.38 cm long, 0.45 cm wide, free part 0.25 cm long; epichile lateral lobes triangular, obtuse, midlobe broadly triangular, obtuse; hypochile spurred; spur appressed to the ovary, thinly subcylindrical, above in front slightly clavate-inflated, apex obtuse, dorsally channeled, 0.95 cm long. Column slightly curved, in basal half adnate to the lip, in the middle constricted underneath, 0.25 cm long, at the apex prolonged; clinandrium large, concave, with coarsely crenate margins; stelidia not seen. Anther cucullate, transversely elliptic, 0.13 cm wide, at the apex with a short, obtuse, strongly recurved, almost retuse beak, connective at the base conical-thickened; rostellum not seen; pollinia 4, obliquely pear-shaped, inside flat, outside convex; rostellum porrect in outline semi-orbicular bidentate; stigma raised margin, formed obliquely cup-shaped with rostellum; viscidium not seen. Ovary cylindrical, not twisted, apex scarcely incurved, 6-ribbed, 0.80-1.1 cm long. Capsule not seen.

Distribution – Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Habitat and Ecology - Epiphyte in upper montane forest of Mt. Hellwig. Altitude 1800-2600 m. Flowering in January and July in the wild.

Notes -  1. Flowers salmon-colored with a lip with a black lip.

2. The epithet salmonea refers to the salmon-colored flowers of the species (salmonaceous means salmon-pink like in Latin)
